Statewide Collaboration
Student Orientation to Blackboard and Moodle

The Virtual Learning Community (VLC) is a collaborative effort of all North Carolina’s Community Colleges to increase the quality and availability of online learning and support services. Employees of the member colleges are invited to participate in projects that benefit all schools.

I was asked to collaborate with a team of instructional designers from three other colleges to research, design, and develop two web-based courses to be delivered through learning management systems. One, developed in Blackboard is a student orientation to Blackboard and the other, developed in Moodle is a student orientation to Moodle.

I served as team lead / project manager, primary design/developer for the Blackboard course, and subject matter expert. I also assisted with development of the Moodle course. Both courses are now available for download by distance learning administrators at all North Carolina community colleges.

Twice since the project was completed, I have been asked by the VLC Director to give webinars highlighting our team's research and demonstrating the content of both courses.
